Kate now offers full-service editorial work for fiction and nonfiction, as well as unique author services designed to help cultivate and promote your author brand.

We are happy to work with editorial co-ops, publishing houses, and literary agencies, so if you would like to reach out about setting up a recurring relationship, please do.

We offer the following editorial and author services:

  • Developmental edits: A full read of your manuscript and a detailed editorial letter addressing plot, pacing, concept and premise, hooks and high-concept appeal, character development and character arcs, LGBTQIAP+ content, voice, tone, thematic impact, emotional depth, and resonance with the reader. Examples, explanations, and possible solutions are always included so that the revision remains true to the story you want to tell and you can find solutions that address the heart of the issue.

  • Full-service editorial: This is a great package for anyone attempting to both help their book break out and to advance their craft and publishing understanding. This package covers 4 rounds of edits: developmental, second round/scene-level edits, line edits, and copy edits. A fifth proofreading and last polish edit can be added for indie authors who want that shine on their pages before going to print or anyone who might want that before submission. We can only work with a few authors a year for this package so if you’d like to reserve a spot please do get in touch. Alongside the editorial support, we will happily discuss revisions with you and be available for phone or video calls as you work through the process.

  • Line edits: After developmental work has been done to set all the scenes and threads where they need to be (with us or someone else) we offer an intensive line edit. This will take your prose to the next level, push the themes and character development deeper, help turn tension points to breaking points, improve the narrative-action balance, resolve problematic terms/language, find moments to dig into third-level emotions and surprise, and amplify the reader’s experience. This commonly results in over a thousand notes on a full-length novel, all targeted to work with your voice and clarify it rather than overshadow or redirect it. We won’t rewrite your material— rather we will work to reveal unfulfilled potential, show you what’s working so you can double-down on it, and dig into the heart of each moment.

  • Copy edits: If you need a thorough clean-up of your MS before going to print or just want to cover your bases, this is the service for you. Our copy edits cover all objective grammatical issues, clarity, word repetition, accidental rhyme, overused punctuation, typos, blocking/staging errors (a character with green eyes in one scene who has blue in the next, a door that was toward the east and now opens north), diction issues, and more.

  • Sensitivity Reads: We offer thorough, compassionate, personal feedback on LGBTQIAP+ issues and experiences for main characters and secondary characters, as well as anxiety, depression, dyslexia, ADHD, intrusive thoughts, chronic pain, chronic illness, certain disabilities, fundamental religious upbringing, polyamorous/ethical-non-monogamous relationships, domestic abuse, abusive relationships, and more. Our sensitivity reads can come with individual readers or multiple readers so that you can gain a few different perspectives at once.

  • Author Services: We offer content branding, social media management, social media and platform analysis and consulting, publicity plans for individual execution, publicity plans we will execute alongside you, book trailers from a career videographer and photographer who understands the publishing industry, author videos for your website/social media, and more.
